Holiday Social

SUNDAY DECEMBER 18, 2016 5:00 P.M. for our Holiday Party.

Our theme will be a Down Home Southern Fried Celebration featuring regional cuisine like chicken and dumpling's, collard greens, green bean casserole with fried french onions for a continental flair, vibrantly colored congealed salads, sweet potato casserole with melted marshmallows, brown sugar and pecans on top, ambrosia, sweet tea and Sunday School lime sherbet punch (bring your own spike). M’Lea Walsh, the embodiment of a Southern Lady, will prepare a menu to assign dishes at Tuesday’s meeting.  No hats in the house or feet on the furniture.  No backtalk or sass.  Remember also, NO TOFU, pesto, sprouts or fluffy or healthy fare.

Centro Bell ringing

Barry will be coordinating the bell ringing duties Saturday, December 10, from 9-4 at Smith's on Cerrillos Road. He is looking for members to cover the first 2 hours of ringing.

The downtown club will be handling two entrance in front of Walmart the same day.

Our Grant was approved!

The Rotary International Foundation just approved our  grant proposal for our latest international project -  Guatemala grant, Reina Maternal/Child Health.

Garrett Robinson, Centro Club president, 2008-2009

Garrett Robinson, President of the Rotary Club of Santa Fe Centro in 2008-2009, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2016.  Garrett founded a Rotary Club in Haiti, then later transferred his membership to our club.  In 2006, he invited me to join the Centro club.  He served as Club President in 2008-2009. We will remember him as a caring father, a warm friend and a great Rotarian.

A service will be held next Saturday, Sept 10, at 11:00 am at the Ascent Bible Church. 2076 Galisteo St.  Santa Fe.

In our thoughts & prayers

Peggy Crumbacher, wife of honorary member Paul Crumbacher, passed away on August 23.  Paul always passed around the Good News basket and closed with a joke.  We looked forward to those jokes every week.  Paul switched to honorary status when he retired so that he could stay home and take care of Peggy.  A Rosary Ceremony will be at 7 pm on Friday, September 9th. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10th. Both services will be held at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church in Santa Fe.

Centro has a new banner in its collection! Centro Rotarian Jean Constant did a makeup at the Rotary Club of Jyväskilä, Finland. The President very graciously accepted our banner and donated his club's very own to our club. Created in 1945, the Jyväskilä RC is still one of the most dynamic Rotary clubs of Central Finland. Great club, great Rotarian fellowship too.

Now that his wife Claudia has graced his family with the gift of beautiful Emma, Barry can breathe a little and share with us a bit of information coming from the past District Convention last April -

Guatemala 2015-2016 - Meet the People

Guest speakers at our club meeting, Tuesday, May 10th

- Deborah Simon, Since her first Rotary water project was approved in 2000, Deborah has been responsible for bringing water & sanitation to 22 villages. It is estimated that over 20,000 people have clean water due to her efforts.

- Art Zeitler is currently serving Rotary International as Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator for Zone 21. He served as District Governor for the Rotary year 2014-15 for District 5930 and is a member of the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi.

Support your neighbor - The Rotary Club of Santa Fe Foundation, May 2016 Gala

The Rotary Club of Santa Fe’s foundation will hold its annual Distinguished Artist of the Year Gala Dinner on May 3 at Hotel Santa Fe. 

This year’s award goes to Santa Fe photographer Tony O’Brien. His work as a documentary photographer has appeared in many national and international publications. O’Brien is director of the photography program at the Marion Center for Photographic Arts at Santa Fe University of Art and Design.
