The land of enchantment…

Ou President recently drove several Youth Exchange students to the District 5520 2015 convention held this year in Clovis. They had time for a short break at the Santa Rosa hole.
The Blue Hole of Santa Rosa is a circular, bell shaped pool east of Santa Rosa, New Mexico. It is very popular destinations for SCUBA diving and training. The Blue Hole has a clear blue body of water with a constant 64 °F temperature and constant inflow of 3000 gallons per minute. While the surface is only 80 feet in diameter, it expands to a diameter of 130 feet at the bottom.
Youth Exchange is a study-abroad opportunity for young people who spend anywhere from a few weeks to a full year as an international student hosted by local Rotary clubs. More than 8,000 young people each year have experiences like these through Rotary Youth Exchange.

District 5520, 2015 convention - President’s diaries

President Rhonda was nice enough to share with us her personal (photo) diaries of the 3 days District convention that took place in Clovis, last April. Here are a few highlights of her visit - top, with friend Larry Dimmitt, member of the Downtown Topeka Rotary Club and Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator, and below a quick visit at the Norman and Vi Petty Rock&Roll museum with Fabienne, president elect M’Lea and her friend Alvin. Our officers will be ready to rock the club next year!

RYLA 2015

Our RYLA committee under the leadership of Mary Robinson selected 2 worthy participants for our next District 5520, RYLA camp this summer: Isabela Coppler from Santa Fe High School, a National Honors Society student and Varsity team soccer player; and Erich Schandelwein from St Michael High School, a seasoned JV and U basketball player and Honor student in Algebra and Chemistry. We wish them both a great and profitable camp and thank our RYLA Chair Mary for a job well done!

Family of Rotary

Centro RC Past president and long time club member Joan Rutherford-Dilg left us a few day ago after a long struggle with cancer. Our club will miss her smile and dedication to help others in need. Her warmth and generosity will stay with us for a long, long time I am sure. Our thoughts and prayers go to her family.

A memorial service will be held by her husband John and son Jeff Dilg, Thursday April 30, 2015 at the Berardinelli Family Funeral Services located at 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Donations in her memory can be made to the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico.
